Discovering Perception of Music

Maybe it’s me changing as I get older, or maybe I am becoming picky with my age but I am becoming very resistant to new music I hear on the radio.  Other than hearing the same songs over and over again every hour, the new songs and the new music that is out there just leave a bad taste in my mouth. Is it a sign of getting old?  I don’t know.

One of the kid’s that I was teaching brought in some music he wanted to learn and I just could not get into the usual enjoyment of the music.  So I asked him “why do you like this music?” & “what make it special to you”  after hearing his explanations of what the song meant to him and why he soo much wanted to play this set I was finally getting it.

Sometimes you forget it is more that mastering the music, and just flowing with emotions … to express yourself and release the emotional energy which is channeling your musical expression and drive.

Making Your Own Instrument from Wood

As part of music appreciation, I have implemented a fun project that everyone enjoys and we are haveing

Let the Children Play

great results.  We are asking the students to make their own instrument and then to come up with and original melody or song. We are encouraging them to look for a sound to create, then taking it a step further put their creativity into making a song.

Creating musical instrument inspires the kids to try all kinds of different things. To create and environmental focus on the project, we split the group into two, then asked one group to use recycled items such as plastics to make their instruments.  For the second group, we asked the kids to make instruments from wood.  Since instrument are made from both wood and plastic I thought this would be a good challenge.

The group making the instruments from plastic were able to bring in items from that were destined for the recycle bin. Items such as cans, pie tins, boxes, paper tubes and PVC pipes. Kids were making drums, string instruments and flutes with the PVC pipes.

For the second group, we asked a Naperville tree removal company (Naperville Tree Care) to bring in some special woods and wood related product for the kids instruments.  We were able to educate the kids about the kinds of instruments that were made from wood, what kind of trees the instrument are made from and where at the trees grown.

The way things are coming together is great.  The extra’s you need to do for a project like this is well worth it.  I can post more on this project in the near future and show off the kids instruments.

One Of The Sounds That I Very Much Enjoy

One of the sounds that I very much enjoy is the sound of the classical guitar. A very classical guitar can have very clean sounding strings with beautiful chords. I always joked around with a couple of my friends that play the guitar about how you can never have a campfire without somebody they can’t play the guitar. For as long as instruments have had strings I’m sure people have been sitting around campfires playing them. The classical guitar only has 5 strings. While one of the hybrids has 6. To me, I’m a very Point Blank person when it comes to guitars. It’s a five-string or nothing for me. I do not enjoy as much the six-string hybrid. Perhaps it is my small short squatty Irish fat fingers that make it hard to play. And I do know that that is exactly the case. However what I will say is this; 6 string guitar, although is not considered classical, does have its value and Merit. I guess it’s just because I like to imagine years ago men sitting around a campfire telling stories while someone played the guitar it truly has a beautiful sound and I enjoy playing it but Eric Clapton were to combine his power of the guitar with meatloaf it would be first of all very funny however I’ll bet it would be an amazing album.

Offer More Value Than Your Competition

Recently I saw a press release (6/10/2016) on ABC 12 about a business for  heating and air conditioning repair service that was attracting customers by giving away furnaces.  This is great marketing.  The company is adding value to and individual, who may desperately need it, adding value to the city by helping out individuals and not the state, and adding value to his company by getting their name out into the community.  I would check out the companies site (www.bestheatingandairia.com) to see how they structured this idea.  It’s a big win-win.

Think of what promotions you could have to offer.  Free lessons. Bonus time.

College Music Appreciation

My first year in college I decided to take a class called music appreciation. Music appreciation I thought was going to be a pretty BS Class come on come to class listen to a couple CDs you say a couple of important sounding things and give me my A.

Well, not so in this case. Well, not so in this case. What I experienced to music appreciation was very different than what I would have normally expected. Music appreciation was a fantastic class that opened my eyes to different types of music that I have not listened to. Go figure music appreciation?

I remember listening to Paul McCartney and the drum solo CD that he released in the mid-nineties. Not something that I would normally pick out and listen to bimagesut definitely after hearing it was totally tuned into it. I really understood the appeal and for that matter some of the other intricacies of what Paul McCartney was trying to create. Aside from contemporary music we also studied classical music. I really did go into this class already truly appreciating classical music. However the depth at which we covered the subject matter made me enjoy it even more. Music appreciation has to be personal! You must choose what you like you must listen to what you like and you must create and environment that makes you feel comfortable. I have found that music helps create an environment for myself that I can control. By playing the right song whether it be upbeat or slow I can change my attitude. Music appreciation is something to be considered of Great Value. The fact that our society has created so much beautiful music isn’t

Music appreciation is something to be considered of Great Value. The fact that our society has created so much beautiful music is an absolute astounding fact that keeps me puzzled all the time. Just when you think you’ve heard every song or every be a new one comes out and crushes that thought process in your brain. I very much appreciate the different styles of music available to meet and often I try to not seek out different music.

The Commendatory of Band-Mates

In fifth grade, we all have the opportunity to sit down and listen to a really awesome band play. Shortly after the band got done playing we had the opportunity to interact with different band members. I really remember enjoying the sound of the trumpet and how awesome it sounded. Shortly after that opportunity ice soon picked up the trumpet and started to take lessons. Unlike my piano playing, I did continue to play the trumpet for several years. High school was so much fun I actually enjoyed marching band. Yeah, most people make fun of band geeks and I’m sure I was one of them. However, it was a truly experience with playing the piano and going to church a5755089nd listening to music all the time that really grew my appreciation towards a later Endeavor that I would play and become somewhat accomplished. Clean the truck it was very fun for me I really did enjoy it and during marching band, I had entered into several competitions even so much as having my own solo at the University of Illinois. During high school, I had the opportunity also to play on several pep bands that got the travel at different sporting events. This was especially fun for me as I am a big fan of sports and even more of a fan of great music. the experiences that I had while traveling and play music gave me a head start on life. I was able to to travel and make friends that were very like-minded. Having connections, like that when  you play in band, is almost like having a small family. Most people are very well connected because these groups are relatively small. Appreciating good music is not hard to do but finding great friends is a huge bonus when you play in a band or in a group.

Learning to Play the Piano At a Young Age

A five years old my parents told me they would like me to learn how to play the piano. My parents had a very old piano that allowed me to practice in our living room. After a week the piano was moved my bedroom. I obviously had a long way to go and listen to me play chopsticks in the house was more than most could bear. Mom and Dad said that learning to play the piano was much like learning another language it would open one’s mind to learn other skill sets. Al5755088though I’m sure that this is true Kama I never had the opportunity to really find out if I had any talent in playing the piano. Play the piano never had much of an appeal to me but it did open my mind to music appreciation. After my long Stellar debut of playing the piano for about 3

After my long Stellar debut of playing the piano for about 3 years, I gave it up. Still this day I very much appreciate musical talent and the sound of someone that is very skilled and play the piano. I never thought I had much of a future in the piano because I had such small short stubby fingers. And I was right but it more had to do with my lack of Interest. Music appreciation can come in many forms either by you being an active participant in creating sound or by actively listening and truly appreciating the different melodies and interactions that are created to make a piece of music sound interesting.
